Win a Smart Tech Package with Smart Energy GB
As we spend more time at home, our energy consumption is bound to increase. We’re cooking more meals, we’re enjoying movie nights in, and our freezer is working hard to keep that ice cream nice and cool as we enjoy the warmer weather.
But there are simple ways you can reduce your home energy usage, and even save yourself some money.
Check out some suggestions from Smart Energy GB, the campaign for a smarter Britain below and then enter the competition to win the smart tech package.
Save Your Energy
Smart Energy GB wants to give you the information and advice you need to keep your energy consumption under control as we spend more time at home during the current social distancing measures.
Here are a few quick tips:
Turn appliances off stand-by – this simple measure could save households up to £35 per year!
Using a microwave is often much cheaper than the oven/hob – consider using it to heat food up where possible, or experiment with new recipes, like mug cakes!
Embrace the natural look by letting your hair dry naturally and using less electrical appliances. Give your hairdryer a break!
Cutting down your daily shower by a minute less each time will save money on your energy bills.
When you leave gadgets like mobile phones, laptops and tablets on charge even when the battery level is 100%, they could still be using energy. Switching them off and unplugging them once they’re fully charged is a great way to be more energy efficient – and even improve their battery life.
Use a bowl to wash up rather than a running hot tap and you could save up to £25 a year in energy.
If you have a smart meter installed, use it to track your energy use and see where you might be able to cut down your consumption.
